Description

Mensuramea

  • A column you can measure against. Length, girth, testes — bone-pressed, repeatable, made to be photographed.
  • The method stays. The state can change. Flaccid or erect, the standard does not.
  • One piece, reads the same way every-time.

The instrument. Mensuramea is a clear acrylic standard: a bone-pressed base, a length slider that seats the glans, a girth tape read through the column, and a testes reference at the foot. Metric and imperial are cut into the piece. Flaccid or erect, the method does not change. The number is only as good as the way it was taken.

The record. Enlargement protocols, recovery, atrophy, a change you want on file — none of these survive a new ruler, a new angle, and a new guess at the bone. Seat the base on the midline, lock the sliders, and the next month is comparable to this one. The photograph carries the scale with it.

The photograph. The piece is meant to be seen. Clear stock, a marble-cast ground, indicators readable from above. Set it, shoot, and the frame holds length, girth, and testes against one object instead of a tape lost at the edge. Useful for a private archive. Equally useful when the point of the picture is the picture.

The measure, not the man. Classical figures were cut to a canon, then left alone. Non sola mensura viri — a man is not this number. Mensuramea is for the people who still want the number taken properly: the same seat, the same cup, the same tape, whether the reason is a protocol, a clinical note, or simple curiosity.
